&#8220;Simple&#8221; Stuff That Isn&#8217;t Actually Simple<\/h2><p>Companies like Apple and Google love to say their products are &#8220;intuitive.&#8221;<\/p><p>That\u2019s easy to say when you\u2019re 22 and grew up with a smartphone in your hand.<\/p><p>But for the rest of us, things like <strong>moving a file into a folder on a MacBook<\/strong> or <strong>adding a contact to WhatsApp<\/strong> can feel like trying to solve a puzzle in the dark.<\/p><p>In the last few months, I\u2019ve helped neighbors with things that the &#8220;geniuses&#8221; at the store often overlook:<\/p><ul><li><strong>Organizing the Mess:<\/strong> We\u2019ve cleaned up cluttered desktops and moved files so you can actually find that document you saved three days ago.<\/li><li><strong>Making it Readable:<\/strong> I\u2019ve set up screen transcription and accessibility features so you don\u2019t have to squint at tiny text or struggle to hear what\u2019s being the War Against &#8220;Two-Factor Authentication&#8221;<\/h2><p>We\u2019ve all been there.<\/p><p>You just want to check your Verizon bill or pay your Target credit card, and suddenly the website demands a &#8220;six-digit code&#8221; sent to your phone.<\/p><p>If you don&#8217;t catch it in 60 seconds, you&#8217;re locked out. It\u2019s a nightmare.<\/p><p>Recently, I worked with a client named Peg. She was stuck in a loop with her banking. The security was so tight she couldn&#8217;t even get in to pay her bills.<\/p><p>On top of that, her inbox was overflowing. We sat down and cleared out <strong>14,000 unread emails<\/strong> (yes, 14,000!).<\/p><p>We unsubscribed from the junk and set up a system so she could receive those security codes and enter them with confidence.<\/p><p>Technology shouldn&#8217;t be a wall between you and your own money. I\u2019ve worked with families where a loved one is dealing with memory loss or the early stages of dementia. In those cases, &#8220;tech support&#8221; isn&#8217;t about the newest features\u2014<strong>it\u2019s about patience<\/strong>.<\/p><p>I worked with one client, Corrine, who was struggling to remember her short-term tasks.
