June 2008 :: Time To Let A Few “F” Bombs Fly

f word

Sometimes I get a little worked up and need to vent.

Every now and then I need to let a few choice “F” bombs fly!

Fresh

“Cato said the best way to keep good acts in memory was to refresh them with new.”  ~Francis Bacon (1561-1626) philosopher

Have you found new ways to express the same concepts?

When was the last time you overhauled your pitch, training, or product presentation?

Memorability is achieved through variation; the ability to say the same thing in a host of different ways.

Get inside your presentations and find new ways to express your thoughts.

It will increase your MQ.

Frank

“Who are you and how did you get in here?”
“I’m a locksmith. And, I’m a locksmith.” ~Leslie Nielsen, as Lieutenant Frank Drebin, “Police Squad”

More often than not people appreciate the straight truth.

Whether you need to communicate good news (easy) or bad (not easy), give it to them directly.

This does not mean you set tact, empathy, compassion and understanding aside.

It does mean that you have the unique, memorable ability to share information that others would just as soon skirt around.

Failure

“I succeed because I fail.” ~Michael Jordan

We agree that failure rarely (never?) feels good yet there are so many opportunities created from failure.

As an added bonus failure can sometimes be endearing to a client or prospect.

No, not the “I forgot to place your trade and the market went up 10%” kind of failure.

I am speaking about the small human shortcomings that we all have that are often most memorable.

Your MQ is increased when you allow others to experience doses of your flaws.

Follow through

“In golf as in life it is the follow through that makes the difference.” ~Unknown

How many hollow commitments are made to you each day?

“I’ll call you by three.”

“The report will on your desk by the end of the day.”

“We’ll be at your house between one and two on Wednesday.”

You can increase your MQ by a substantial amount by simply doing what you say you will do.

Why?

Most folks simply do not.

In an age where commitments are disposable, yours are solid gold.

Funny

“Funny is an attitude.” ~Flip Wilson

There’s a whole lot you could be bummed out about today.

Gas at $3.00 plus.

War. Fires. Unemployment. Real estate values. Recession.

Take that, combined with fact that we work in the business of caring for people’s money – the serious stuff – and you have a recipe for terminal seriousness.

Like Flip said, funny is not about wearing lamp shades and pithy one-liners.

What increases your MQ is the ability to find and share humor in the everyday situations; your attitude.

People are more memorable when they use humor to their advantage.

So go right ahead.

Why not let a few “F” bombs fly?
