Received a seemingly random request in my inbox today:
I am interested in purchasing this website. Could someone please contact me regarding this website and the sale of it.
The inquirer was interested in a domain name that I have registered and had neglected to forward: bememorable.com.
Being an enterprising guy I decided, before saying no, to ask a few questions:
While not formally for sale, bememorable.com might be available. The primary consideration, beyond price, is what will be on the site. If you would like to share with me your business niche/concept, and price that you believe the site would be worth, I would be willing to discuss.
Within 30 minutes I received a reply which made me smile (edited for brevity):
I am not an very “in tune” with what websites are worth. Let me tell you a little about myself and what my motives are. I have been in the automotive business for about 8 years. I learned thru very difficult circumstances in my career that you have to be different in order to be successful. What I mean by this is being memorable. My definition of different is memorable. I have been discussing with my sales crew that we have to be different. We have to be memorable! Every time a customer comes to buy a car, they expect the same thing at every car dealership, and usually get what they expect. We are on a mission to ”BE MEMORABLE”. We have changed the “Sales Consultant” title to “MEMORABLE AGENT”. What this means is that the customer is going to get a “memorable” experience out of the norm. Not something they expect, not something they can forget. Not just from our dealership, but the “memorable agent” themselves.
I want to take this a step further. I want to put “ways” to be memorable out there. I am currently writing a book, that may take a while to write, but none-the-less I am writing it. I want people to ’BE MEMORABLE’ in every facet of their lives. Memorable in a motivational way. Being ‘memorable’ is a mind set to me. It’s a way of life. Not just in business, but personally. It is something that everyone should strive to be, want to be, and except that being memorable is a way a life, a way of heart, and a mind set. It isn’t something that you can be once in a while, isn’t something that you can be at one time.
Let me know if you should have ANY questions what so ever. As far as a price, I have no clue, and we can discuss this at any point.
O.k., what are the odds that a random inquiry about the availability of a url turns into meeting another enthusiastic supporter of increasing one’s MQ?
Never one to waste an opportunity I replied with a description of what I do, links to my site and blog, an offer to have him guest post on my blog (he said he was writing a book), and an offer to work with his team – heck I want them the learn about MQ from the original!
Heartened to know that another like thinker is out there. The fact that he wishes to bring more memorability to the car industry, especially today, is a fantastic effort – and will likely help his dealership sell more cars.

Rob:
Great post. Heck, you may have discovered a new way to prospect using domain names. I hope it turns into a new client opportunity or at least a collaboration.
@Mark
Thanks – you know I think he was more ticked that I wouldn’t sell him the URL!!
Rob,
Actually, I wasn’t ticked that you would not sell the URL. I am encouraged that I am not the only person on this earth that is interested in being memorable. This isn’t about selling or buying to me. It is about making my dealership, my life, the auto industry, and this world begin to think that being memorable is something that must be done in life if we are to truly change the way we do business, the way we operate, the way we think. So yes, the auto industry is in complete turmoil right now, and will be for a while. That is why my team and I are on a mission to change the way that we look at the customer. Create an experience that is so much more than buying a car, meeting a salesperson, or getting your car serviced. It isn’t about us. It’s about us, being about them. I applaud what you teach, and what you coach and more than likely will use your services in the near future. The URL that we mentioned, might very well be better used by yourself, than by me. You see to me this is about getting the message of “being memorable” out. While, I am a very talented person, there are people out there with more talent than myself. If you can use that website to get across the TRUE meaning of being memorable, then I am all in.
I hope to be speaking to you soon.
Be Memorable NOW –
JB
@Jeremy;
Welcome to the blog! I do admire your passion and conviction about the topic of memorability. There are far too few folks in the world that operate with this DNA.
I look forward to you getting your URL (is it bememorableNOW.com?) up and cooking. Start blogging (see the link above for info about this wordpress theme- Thesis) about being memorable and there will be at least two of us singing the good word.
In the meantime the offer I made is still open: if you want to write a guest post here I welcome it. If you have not written a blog post before, no worries, I’ll help.
Look forward to speaking – my contact info is on the tab by the same name.
