Stan’s The Man

Yesterday I was at LAX and while waiting for my flight to board I observed Stan.

Stan is a gate agent for Alaska Air and was boarding a flight to Seattle. In the customary fashion passengers lined up and Stan scanned their boarding pass before allowing them to get on the flight. Alaska 313

What was not customary was what Stan did after the scan.

He used every passengers name: “Thanks Mr. Smith, and have a great flight”. He didn’t do this exclusively for first class passengers, MVP members, or other elites.

Stan did this for everyone.

This included a group of +20 Chinese tourists who absolutely had little if any idea what he said but heard their name and saw his smile. Adults, children, old, young, professional business person, summertime tourist, it did not matter to Stan. He used very single persons name.

He demonstrated universal signs of memorability – attitude and enthusiasm.

Thanks Stan, you are the man.
